The film, Newton , managed to make Rs. 96 lakhs on its opening Friday at the domestic front. The makers are expecting a rise in numbers and a good collection during the weekend thanks to the positive word of mouth and the Oscar selection. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi , Anjali Patil , Raghubir Yadav among others in key roles.

The movie narrates the tale of a newly recruited government employee named Nutan Kumar a.k.a. Newton, played by Rajkummar Rao , who is entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out a fair election in a Naxal hit area. It is an unconventional tale with a powerful story that rides on the shoulders of talented actors with an amalgamation of good direction.

In a media statement, Rajkummar Rao said, “I am aware that the film doesn’t have the ingredients for an instant success. But we’re hoping that the terrific reviews, word of mouth and the Oscar nod would get the audience interested. Cinema in our country is changing rapidly. Newton is proof of that change. It is important that we take its message of electoral obligations to the Oscars.”
