One Line Review: An average romantic love story with an old flavor which cannot be compared to the former. Positive Points: Interesting 1st half, melodious music, performance of Shraddha Kapoor, performance of supporting characters Negative Points: Weak direction, illogical screenplay, loopholes in the script, ignored details, anticlimax, weak dialogues Plot: First and foremost, 'Aashiqui 2' is not a sequel of 1990 hit 'Aashiqui'. Nothing is similar between two movies. Not even the music which made the former one a hit and transformed the struggling singer Kumar Sanu into a successful one. Mahesh Bhatt had created the magic with his innocent love story in 'Aashiqui' but, Mohit Suri played the wrong cards with 'Aashiqui 2'. Now, let's come to the plot. In short we can say the story is all about a fading singer finds a new meaning to his life when he falls in love with an aspiring singer who is very talented and deserves success. But the saturation bombing of the stardom makes some harsh effects on their budding love story. Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur) is a former singing sensation but is troubled. His once 'Rockstar' career status is fading because of his rising addiction to alcohol. To find a bliss, he visits Goa and accidently bumps into a talented aspirant singer Aarohi (Shraddha Kapoor). His heart skips a beat and he finds a new reason to live in his crumbling and troubled life. He trains her to become the next singing sensation of India. Her career graph reaches the crest while he stays as her shadow as a stone except for some moments when he shows his sober side to her. Eventually she achieves the desired triumph in her career and he takes a nosedive in alcohol. Meanwhile, both of them struggle to keep their budding love alive in all the obstacles of their lives. Now, will Aarohi be able to free Rahul out of his strong alcohol addiction? Will Rahul be able to quit alcohol and start a fresh life with his love? Direction And Other Technical Aspects: Director Mohit Suri has completely ignored some important details in the movie. This was a loose attempt by the filmmaker. It can easily be shown as the documentary about 'the harsh effects of alcohol addiction!' There is an unnecessary melodrama and lots of mush in the movie. The script seems to be inspired from Amitabh Bachchan's 'Abhimaan'. It contains lots of errors. The screenplay is weak and ignored. In the first half, the beautiful innocent love story is presented. Despite having lots of blunders and loopholes, we can connect with the story. Some scenes really touch your heart. But in the second half, the movie fails to take up. The second half is really very tedious and some things are difficult to digest. Suri could have been turned the movie as a beautiful love story with a social message, but he failed to do so. In the climax, the director given an absolutely wrong message to the people who are struggling with an alcohol addiction. It is actually an anti climax. Performance: Shraddha Kapoor proves that she is the daughter of a skilled actor. She did a good job in her debut film. She looks beautiful, innocent and delivers a good performance. Aditya Roy Kapur looks good but mostly stone faced. He has delivered some emotional scenes excellently but he could not portray a drunken guy neatly. The guy is a very good performer but the director did not use his skills right. The supporting cast did their job at par. Mahesh Thakur and Shaad Randhawa proved their seniority in the field of acting but had limited roles. Music: Music of 'Aashiqui 2' is composed by Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari. All the songs are good especially 'Tum Hi Ho' sung by Fame Gurukul contestant Arijit Singh. The music is excellent but has a short shelf life. Sadly, we can't compare it to the former 'Aashiqui's music. Final Verdict: 'Aashiqui 2' can't be compared to 'Aashiqui' in any aspect. A one-time watch if you love romantic flicks and nothing else to do.
