Plot

Dolly (Sonam Kapoor) is a con bride who gets into fake marriages and loots the groom on the very first wedding night. She has her notorious gang who along with her robs the groom and his family and flees away leaving them penniless. Dolly's gang meticulously researches and finds the prospective groom and the beautiful dolly charms them into marrying her only to grab all their valuables.

Dolly's first target was a Haryanvi lad named Sonu Sheravat (Rajkummar Rao) who genuinely loves her but is conned by dolly and her insane 'so called' family. The next victim is muma's boy Manoj Singh Chadda (Varun Sharma), a typical Punjabi munda who falls prey to dolly's trap. After fooling many other innocent targets, the next is the story of Robin Singh (Pulkit Samrat) who is a cop and wants to unveil dolly's truth along with the other two victim grooms. Robin has a significant connection with dolly's past and hence has his own motive to crack this case of the 'Lootehri Dulhan'.

One line Review: The story revolves around Dolly, the ultimate runaway bride who fakes marriages just to loot her grooms and their families, and flees away with her gang only to find the another rich target. Positive Points: Exceptional performances by Rajkummar Rao as a haryanvi lad and Varun Sharma who plays a typical Delhi mumma's boy, The quirky story line and the unpredictable ending of the film. Negative Points: Weak dialogue delivery and non involving performance by Sonam Kapoor, Illogical sequences, disappointing loose ends in the second half of the movie. Plot: The beautiful Dolly (Sonam Kapoor) plays a quirky role of an unconventional yet perfect bride who dresses up and charms the men to marry her. She leads a notorious gang who meticulously researches upon the target prospective groom and, cons him and his family into the fake marriage. Thus, leaving them penniless on the very next day of the marriage. Dolly and gang succeed to deceive many wealthy grooms, the course of which is presented in a three minute song but the focus remains on the three men- Sonu Sherawat, Manoj Singh Chadda and Robin Singh . A Haryanvi lad named Sonu Sherawat (Rajkummar Rao) is the first target who genuinely falls in love with Dolly but gets trapped in the fraud by the con bride. The second target is a Punjabi Munda named Manoj Singh Chadda (Varun Sharma). He is a typical Mumma's boy who also falls prey in Dolly's trap. Then comes cop Robin Singh (Pulkit Samrat) who finally gets along with the other two victim grooms to unfold her truth. This cop has his own motive to crack the case of this 'Lootehri Dulhan' and holds some association with her past. What this connection leads to and where the twist in the climax is headed, is further answerable in the film. Direction and Other Technical Aspects: This film is the directorial Debut of Abhishek Dogra and he has managed to do a decent job. There is not much in the story line and the screenplay remains weak but the twist in the climax and the unconventional ending makes it win a few points. There are a few illogical and unconvincing sequences unnecessarily dragged into the movie which is a bit disappointing. Performances: Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma score full marks for their impeccable performances in the movie. Rajkummar gets into the character of Sonu Sherawat exceptionally well to the extent that even his body language supports his acting skills. Varun impresses all by his perfect comic timing and realistic performance. It is due to his character that one enjoys some delightful comic scenes in the movie. Pulkit Samrat essays the role of a cop named Robin Singh and unnecessarily resembles Salman Khan's Dabang Character -Rohin hood Pandey. Sonam Kapoor however does a decent job though the striking character of dolly could have been played more convincingly and with clarity. Music: The item number featuring Malaika Arora Khan - 'Fashion Khatam' by Mamta Sharma and Wajid Ali is a peppy number yet not a striking one. The title track by Divya Kumar is precisely used in the film and is crafted beautifully. The other two loud numbers - 'Fateh tak Nachna' by Sunidhi Chauhan and 'Babaji ka Thullu' by Wajid Ali; Danish Sabri makes you swing. The romantic number 'Mere Naina Kafir Ho Gaye' sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a melodious one. Final Verdict: Dolly Ki Doli is a full on timepass masala movie. One needs to put their brains aside and enjoy the illogical yet some funny sequences presented in the movie. It is a light hearted film that fairly manages to do justice to the comedy genre if we purposely choose to avoid the loose strings and the weak script. The film features exceptional performances by Rajkummar Rao, Varun Sharma, Archana Puran Singh and few others from Dolly's gang which makes it a onetime watch. But it is definitely not a 'Paisa Vasool Types' movie though one can have a fun time watching it with the entire family.

A quirky story line that does not shy away from having a unconventional ending and also Varun Sharma and Rajkummar Rao's brilliant performances. This runaway bride is a metaphor to modern, free spirited girls who may not want to be struck down by a marriage.

For someone whose acting chops have never been quite praised to the skies, Sonam Kapoor surprised many by attempting two films, one after the other, where she plays the central character. Call her over-confident or strong-willed, there's something that seems to be working for her. In Khoobsurat it was her charming vanity, including the tantrums, which fit the author-backed role like a glove. In Dolly Ki Doli, Sonam attempts something more layered. And dare I say, it's working!

A comely young thing ensnares unsuspecting young men, leads them on, and decamps with everything : broken hearts, hurt egos and wedding loot. 'Dolly Ki Doli' has a great idea, and starts off well, but then falls into a familiar trap- of a single-track leading lady piloting a half-baked plot.

There is much to like in Dolly Ki Doli. Or, let us put it this way: there isn't much to dislike in Dolly Ki Doli. The film, driven by a wildly whimsical plot, gives lead actress Sonam Kapoor a breezy, if insubstantial, role that allows her to stay well within her comfort zone. She plays a rebel who revels in flaunting bridal attire from across the length and breadth of India - all in a day's work.

Meet Dolly (Sonam). The ultimate runaway bride. But she doesn't ride off into the sunset on a steed. She dumps the studs in sherwanis instead. After robbing them of their money and jewellery - leaving their real 'jewels' untouched. The 'con-banega-fraud-pati' gang has a full TV serial of a family. A dowry-doling dad, a 'groom-scanning' brother (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub) and a maa of all chornis to complete this dump-the-dulha drama. Dolly simply dolls up, bats her pretty lashes and charms the men into marrying her.

If you are told that the bride in this film calls herself 'Looteri Dulhan', would you still want to waste three hours of your weekend watching it? Perhaps you won't. Is the film worth the time and money?

The last few releases have been low key affairs when we take a look at their overall box office collections. However this Friday the audience is in for a treat with the release of the comedy film DOLLY KI DOLI. After her appearance in the fairy tale story KHOOBSURAT, come this Friday, Sonam Kapoor will be seen playing a runaway bride. While the story of DOLLY KI DOLI follows Dolly (Sonam Kapoor), it begins with her fake brother, Raju (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) identifying prospective grooms, who are eventually duped by Dolly after she gets them to fall in love with her. Once the prospective grooms are madly in love with Dolly, she marries them; however on the night of the 'suhagraat', Dolly offers them 'drugged' milk making them unconscious after which she along with her gang wipes the house clean of all the valuables. On the other side of the law is Robin Singh (Pulkit Samrat), a police inspector given the task of catching Dolly. Does Robin manage to catch up with the runaway con-bride or does Dolly find her true love and give up her life of crime...makes for the rest of the story.

I can name a hundred movies where the end shot is that of the hero and heroine tying the knot. Marriage is a national obsession, an adopted pastime and so deeply entrenched in our collective consciousness that any refusal to get on the 'I do' bandwagon is almost viewed as rebellion or, even worse, a mistake. First timer Abhishek Dogra's droll Dolly Ki Doli isn't an anti-marriage propaganda but deviously defiant towards the institution while both -- mocking and exploiting -- the pomp and pomposity that leads up to sealing the deal.
