Hate Story 2, which marks the Bollywood debut of Surveen Chawla and Jay Bhanushali has finally hit the theatres. The film indeed managed to create the right buzz before the release, which was proved by the fact that the trailer crossed more than 4 million views on YouTube, within four days of its launch. We, and surely you, were definitely looking forward to this erotic revenge saga. Here how it fared in living up to expectations...

Perhaps it's the most crowd pleasing genre in all of cinema. Erotic thrillers have are a natural attractive quality. They titillate, they pique your curiosity and of course have the right kind of excitement. The promos of Hate Story 2 made you believe it had the promise of a fulfilling erotic thriller. The movie though fails to live up to the promise. There's hardly anything in this movie that can stimulate your amorous senses. It plays out in a stereotypical revenge saga manner. The girl is abused and beaten. She hits back with vengeance. Another home brewed thriller trying to be Kill Bill.

Hard as this may be to believe, it turns out that Hate Story 2 is not the erotic masterpiece we've been waiting for. In fact, it is one of the many Hindi film sequels completely unrelated to its predecessor-except in theme and economics, which means that it is not even the bold, titillating femme-fatale flick that matineeshow college-bunking boys expect it to be. You can thank the magic of marketing for the obvious bait.

<strong>Hate Story 2 has strong performances, but story lets it down</strong><br/> Once the cops find Sonika inside a coffin and rescue her, she's sent to hospital and she runs away. But the cops won't flash her missing report in media because "jinse bhaag rahi hai wo alert ho jaayenge"! Seriously? Do you have such dumb villains that they won't know their captive is absconding?

The second film in the series of Hate Story franchise is a story about a corrupt politician Mandaar, his keep Sonika and her revenge. Sonika played by Surveen Chawla is a helpless young woman who is trapped in the murky world of Mandaar. The only solace for her is photography. One day she meets a young man Akshay, played by Jay Bhanushali, in her photography class. Love blossoms. But villain Mandaar will never let her be happy.

The sequel of the 2012 'Hate Story' gives us a new vengeful woman. She's been wronged by, who else, a man. And she will stop at nothing to get back at him. The high-point of 'Hate Story' was the sultry Bengali actress Paoli Dam. She stripped well, and wore her bare skin like a wounded badge of honour. And when she goes after her evil tormentor, we feel like egging her on, because we want to see him bite the dust. Because Dam channeled pain and anger with vigour.

<strong>'Hate Story 2' is a woman oriented revenge drama with titillating scenes</strong><br/> Everyone loves a good revenge drama. Whether its television or film, stories about vengeance especially set around a woman scorned in love or physically abused have often caught the attention of the audience across ages. Hate Story 2 takes the basic elements of sex and violence from the first film and amplifies it five fold to tell an engaging story.

In a scene the female protagonist Sonika (Surveen Chawla) out of angst over her lover Akshay's (Jay Banushali) murder, assaults one of the killers by inserting a gas cylinder pipe in his mouth. The scene stirs angst against the killer after you know that innocent Jay was slayed mercilessly, but despite that you aren't able to connect with the scene as it departs giving you an empty feeling.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned... The adage has been the essence of several Hindi films over the years. Recall INTAQUAM [Ashok Kumar, Sadhna, Sanjay Khan], OH BEWAFAA [Rajendra Kumar, Anil Dhawan, Yogita Bali], KHOON BHARI MAANG [Rekha, Kabir Bedi]... even the multi-starrer NAGIN depicted the story of an ichhadhari nagin [Reena Roy] settling scores with the men responsible for the slaughter of her ichhadhari naag-partner [Jeetendra].

The name Hate Story 2 calls for it - hatred. The film that is essentially a revenge plot is a plodding story that lacks brains. Maintaining the hilarious lines of the prequel, the heavy breathing seductive talk has just gotten worse with this film. The lines are mere trash gems out of some B-grade movies of the past.
