From Queen to Don, Deepika Padukone talks about her next with Irrfan Khan!
After Padmavati, Deepika Padukone will take a break and later start with the film Sapna Didi with Irrfan Khan.
Actress Deepika Padukone has been a versatile actress and played vivid roles throughout her career. In the upcoming film Padmavati which is a lot in news lately, she essays the role of a queen. In her next film starring Irrfan Khan, she essays a criminal. The film is tentatively titled Sapna Didi and is about the dark underworld. In a recent media interaction, Deepika speaks about her roles, working with Bhansali for 3 prominent roles among other things.
When asked about the transition from a queen in Padmavati to a don in her next, Deepika said, “I love it. I am always up for a challenge, although people around me feel like... I also feel like I need to do something slightly less demanding, slightly less emotionally draining, but I get drawn to these kind of films.”
Deepika Padukone also discussed her three important characters from her last films and what binds them -- Leela in Ram-Leela, Mastani in Bajirao Mastani and Rani Padmavati in Padmavati. She said these are “inspiring Indian women who are independent, confident and strong.”
On working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali back to back, she added, “It’s one of the apprehensions people had when I said I was working with Bhansali for the third time around in a span of few years. Everyone had the same concern that you’re going to work with the same director again and it’s going to be the same kind of film, a historic period film.
“But I believe he is going to bring something new to the table every time we collaborate, because he is capable of it, and of seeing me and portraying me so differently in three films,” said the actress.
