Padmaavat is a historic film for our country, says Ranveer Singh

The film was embroiled in a spate of controversies before entering cinemas on 25th January.

Exceeding all expectations, Sanjay Leela Bhansali 's magnum opus, Padmaavat ' has royally entered the elite club of Rs. 300 crores at the domestic box office. Actor Ranveer Singh , who plays barbaric Alauddin Khilji in the period drama, describes the film as historic.

"Padmaavat' is a historic film for our country. I'm overwhelmed and extremely happy that the film has received this much love from audiences not just in India, but also the world over. "It is a film that is and will always be extremely close to my heart and with it becoming my first ever Rs 300 crore film, the memory of 'Padmaavat' will be that much more special," the actor said in a statement.

Thanking filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for giving him such a strong character at this point in his career, the actor said that artists need to stand together. "This success is for all of us to cherish and remember that as artists, we need to stand by our vision, our craft."

Also starring Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor , Padmaavat opened on 25th January and, even more than 50 days of release, is running successfully in many cinemas across the world.
