In a media statement, Saif said, "If Padmavati comes in (on that day), we will think of shifting our release date. I hope we don’t have to do that. Kaalakaandi is a film I am proud of."

"It would have been nice to see Kaalakaandi releasing with Padmavati,as it shows that we have a film industry which makes a different kind of movies. Recently, we saw Secret Superstar and Golmaal Again releasing on the same day and both films did well. Personally, I feel it’s good time to have films releasing alongside one another. But filmmakers are wary about it and you need to take that into consideration," added Saif Ali Khan .

Talking about his upcoming movie, Saif said, "The film is a cross-section of Mumbai with underworld goons, doomed bankers and idealistic lovers all mixed together in this karmic tale about love, crime and living a lifetime in one night!! I truly consider it to be one of my best films and am really forward to the release."

Kaalakaandi stars Saif Ali Khan along with the eclectic ensemble of Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raaz, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Akshay Oberoi, Isha Talwar, Shenaz Treasury, Shivam Patil, Amyra Dastur, Nary Singh and Neil Bhoopalam.
