The upcoming magnum opus Padmavati has turned out to be the most challenging project for director Sanjay Leela Bhansali . Ever since the film went on floors, it has been mired in one controversy or the other. Recently, the release date of the costume drama was put on hold after some fringe groups accused SLB of distorting historical facts and showing revered queen Padmavati in bad light. It has now come to light that the Censor Board of Film Certification has finally agreed to watch the film and issue a certificate. Reportedly, the board will see the film this week.

Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, the studio backing the film, has re-submitted the film to the CBFC for 3D certification. Incidentally, this was also for 2D because it had been rejected before due to technical issues.

“The new application is very consciously worded in legalese, and the CBFC is trying to decode the various levels of claims and disclaims in the application about the historic authenticity of the film. This is taking time. But the film will be viewed by the board’s Examining Committee in the coming week, and we will have to organise a panel of historians to examine the content,” reveals a source.

Starring Deepika Padukone , Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor , Padmavati might release on 9th February 2018.
