Viacom18 Motion Pictures acquires the rights for Mithali Raj biopic!

India was glued to the TV screens watching the Indian Women’s Cricket match with so much intensity for the first time probably as our team entered the finals in the 2017 World Cup. The lady who stood out was the team captain Mithali Raj who became the highest run-scorer in women's international cricket and the only woman cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run-mark in ODIs. The latest update is that Viacom18 Motion Pictures acquires rights for Mithali Raj biopic and soon her story will be translated into a full-fledged Bollywood film.

The ace cricketer’s journey has been a peculiar and an inspirational one. Also, Bollywood has a knack of making good biopics on personalities with stellar stories. Our team lost the final match against England during the World Cup but 34-year-old Mithali Raj caught everyone’s attention due to her striking performance at the game. The captain is an Arjuna Awardee and she has also been bestowed with the Padma Shri in 2015, India's fourth highest civilian honour for her contribution in the field of cricket.

In a media statement, Mithali Raj spoke about the upcoming film and said, “I am extremely happy on this association with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. Hoping that this movie inspires more people especially young girls to take up sports as a career.”

Ajit Andhare of Viacom18 Motion Pictures said, “We are proud to be collaborating with the young and inspirational Mithali Dorai Raj, a name that single-handedly responsible for bringing about a shift in the way women’s cricket team was perceived in our country.”

The makers haven’t announced any details as of yet regarding the casting of the film which is the most interesting part. The direction and technical aspects also need to be sorted out yet! Let’s wait for the official announcements regarding these crucial details of the biopic from the makers.
