The author, columnist and poet was known by different names like Madhavi Kutty after her marriage, then she converted to Islam at the age of 67 and she was then known as Kamala Surayya. The film narrates her story from her marriage at the age of 15 with a banker, Madhav, who supported her writing. Her honest and open treatment of female sexuality made Kamala an iconic author of her generation. The movie also spins around her biography 'Ente Katha', which was translated in English as 'My Story'. It also talks about her conversion to Islam at 67 and her death at the age of 75 years.

The filmmaker Kamal stated "Vidya is one of the first actresses who explored female sexuality unapologetically in films like 'Ishqiya' and 'The Dirty Picture'. She was the perfect choice for the role since the beginning. I first approached her for the Malayalam film but now we will be shooting it as a bilingual, in Malayalam and Hindi simultaneously".

This flick will be filmed in Spain, Germany and France.
