Nikhil Advani Biography

Nikhil Advani is an Indian Bollywood director much remembered for his directorial Debut movie 'Kal Ho Naa Ho'. Nikhil was born on 28th April 1971 into a Sindhi family in Mumbai. His father deals in pharmaceuticals and his mother is from an advertising background. He schooled at Green Lawns High School, Breach Candy and acquired a Masters Degree in Chemistry from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.

Advani began his film career as an assistant director. He assisted Sudhir Mishra in 'Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin' (1996). He also co-wrote the screenplay of the movie. Then he worked with YRF and Dharma productions. He assisted Karan Johar in 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'. He also had a special appearance in the former movie along with Farah Khan in The Neelam Show scene.

He directed his full fledged debut movie 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' under Dharma Productions which had stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Jaya Bachchan. The film won six Filmfare Awards. Nikhil had a clash with Karan Johar and he went to direct his next movie without Dharma Productions. His next was 'Salaam-E-Ishq' with six stories in one movie. In spite of having a big star cast it failed to grab the audience's attention. The film was then produced by Sunil Manchanda, Mukesh Talreja and Chetan Motiwala. His next film 'Chandni Chowk to China' starring Akshay Kumar, too failed to get good reviews neither from the audience nor from critics. He once again grouped with Akshay placing Anushka Sharma opposite him, in 'Patiala House'. The film got mixed reviews in India, though got some good opening in New York. In 2012, he directed India's maiden stereoscopic 3d animated film 'Delhi Safari'.

Nikhil also co-produced the movie 'Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai'.

Nikhil is all set to thrill the audience with his next 'D-Day' starring Arjun Rampal, Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Shruti Haasan. The film will release on July 19, 2013.
