Deepika Padukone speaks on the future of Indian films saying ‘a time will come when our work will be recognized’

Deepika Padukone is one of those actresses who has made a remarkable name for herself in the film industry. The actress who made her debut in Om Shanti Om has completed more than a decade and a half in the acting field. She has starred in some of the most well-known movies, including Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat. She has also appeared in ground-breaking movies, including Chhapaak, Finding Fanny, and Piku. With the help of her production company, KA Productions, she entered the world of production and has worked on films with heavy subjects like 83 and Chhapaak.

Deepika recently was one of the panel members doing jury duties at the Cannes Film Festival 2022. When she was questioned about how her time at Cannes has impacted her perspective as a producer and whether her production company, KA Productions, will change anything. The actress answered, “You know, I don’t think we have to do anything different. I think we have to just be authentic in everything that we do and own it. I think, one of the biggest mistakes that we are making is not owning what we do. Nobody here is apologetic about the movies they make. No one is apologetic about the language they are making them in, no one is apologetic about the budget that has been spent on making the movie. I don’t think we should be apologetic about who we are, where we come from and the cinema that we are making.”

The Piku actress further added, “I truly believe that it is a matter of time, and like I said, I think a lot of times, we have to keep doing what we do, and a time will come when our work will be recognized. And it should”. The pride Deepika expressed in the Indian material was evident in her response, which also provided a glimpse into the future of Indian cinema.

Deepika Padukone will be next featured in Siddharth Anand’s film Pathaan. The film also stars Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham in lead roles.
