UN announces Farhan Akhtar as Women's Goodwill Ambassador

U.N. organization announced Farhan Akhtar as the goodwill ambassador of UN Women South Asia on November 14

Actor Farhan Akhtar has become the first male goodwill ambassador of UN Women's to spread a cause of gender equality and women's empowerment in South Asia with their newly-launched "HeForShe" initiative.

UN organization chose Farhan on behalf of his role in initiating Men Against Rape and Discrimination (MARD) campaign. UN Women Executive Director and Under-Secretary General Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is convinced by his passion and believe his work and values represent the core of UN Women.

Farhan took up the responsibility saying through this new partnership he wants to call on all men and boys to be a catalyst for change. Also, he thanked his well-wisher on Twitter quoting "Thank you to all sending their love re the @UN_Women announcement. It is with your support that I've had the energy to stay on this path."
