The first look poster of Yash Raj Films' period drama Shamshera has leaked online. The poster of the Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor starrer features Ranbir Kapoor in a never-seen-before avatar, with a flowy beard and long mane. Ever since the picture leaked on social media, it has gone viral with fans of the actor sharing it on various platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
The upcoming film features Ranbir and Sanjay Dutt who were earlier seen together in a special song in the latter's biopic titled Sanju, which released in 2018.
Shamshera is the first film featuring Ranbir Kapoor in a double role. Sanjay Dutt plays the main antagonist and Vaani Kapoor portrays a dancer. To prepare for her role, Vaani took professional training in Kathak.
While filming wrapped up in September 2020, Shamshera was initially scheduled for a theatrical release in 2020 or 2021 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shamshera is now scheduled for a theatrical release on 22 July 2022 in standard versions, 3D and IMAX 3D.
The film will also release in dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions simultaneously.
