Varun Dhawan opens up about Bhediya’s box office collection; Here’s what he said!

Varun Dhawan had a mixed performance for 2022 after ten years as an actor. Jugjugg Jeeyo and Bhediya, both of his movies, have not received as well as one might have anticipated when they were first released. Raj Mehta's film Jugjugg Jeeyo, which dealt with marriage, divorce, and challenging family dynamics, contrasted with Bhediya's transformation into a werewolf.

HERE’S WHAT VARUN SAID

But the actor is adamant that these are the movies that still give him his creative fill. When only the Coolie No. 1—directed by his father, the filmmaker David Dhawan—was made available on Prime Video in December 2020, Varun saw a little bit of a lag. The actor remarked, "When the lockdown happened, I struck a roadblock," in an interview. “ I was exhausted. I believed that my choices had to be movies that satisfied me creatively. I shouldn't be doing them just because I have dates available. I took my time signing Jugjugg Jeeyo, Bhediya, and Nitesh Tiwari's Bawaal, 2022 has been among the most creatively satisfying years. I am most proud of these three films as an actor.” he continued.

VARUN ACKNOWLEDGED BHEDIYA BOX OFFICE COLLECTION

He did acknowledge, though, that he had anticipated a stronger box office performance for the horror comedy Bhediya. Stree (2018), the director Amar Kaushik's previous attempt at the genre, had achieved unexpected success. "It has been such a bizarre year, [with filmmakers] attempting to attract people back to theatres," Varun said in an interview. “ I thought Bhediya would perform [better at the box office] than it did. Having said that, I am appreciative that the movie has been watched in theatres and that its [collection] is higher than many others. It advises you to try to perform better.”

VARUN TALKS ABOUT HIS CHOICE OF MOVIES

The actor, who made his acting debut in Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra's Student Of The Year (2012), also discussed his decision to take on unusual stories, such as those in Sriram Raghavan's Badlapur (2015) and Shoojit Sircar's October (2018). "Honestly, when I have to lower my fee to make these films, I'll do it because a film speaks out to [the artist] in you," said Varun. Similar to this, I'll make a Bhediya or a movie with a bigger idea in a particular method. My philosophy is straightforward: the producer shouldn't lose money, and we should make a fantastic movie. Box office is crucial, but occasionally I want to perform in movies because the actor in me can't resist them.”
