Ayan Mukerji has confirmed that Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have completed filming on Brahmastra. Taking to Instagram, the filmmaker posted pics from the couple's Varanasi shoot, confirmed that filming was completed, and announced the release date. “And finally... It's all over!” Ayan shared photos with Alia and Ranbir from the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir temple, as well as a behind-the-scenes shot from their recent shoot timeline.

“Five years since we took our first shot on Brahmstra, and we've finally filmed our last one!" said the director. Absolutely incredible, difficult, once-in-a-lifetime adventure!!! We finished shooting 'Part One: Shiva' in Varanasi, a city laced with the spirit of Shiv Bhagwan, and at the holiest Kashi Vishwanath Mandir, enabling us to finish in an atmosphere of purity, joy, and blessings. "Exciting days ahead, last lap!”

Ayan also disclosed that the film will be released this September 9th. Alia also posted a video from the set of the shoot with the caption, “We started shooting in 2018." And now... finally... the filming of Brahmastra (Part One) has concluded!! I've been meaning to say it for a long time... IT'S A WRAP!!!!!!!!”

Brahmastra has been delayed for a long time. The film, Alia and Ranbir's first collaboration, was supposed to be released in 2019 but has since been postponed. Their plans were further hampered by the pandemic. The team released a motion poster in December to introduce Ranbir's character from the film. In the film, the actor plays Shiva. He is shown holding a Trishul while surrounded by fire in the poster. On the other hand, Alia's character Isha's poster was released earlier this month on her birthday.

Brahmastra is heavily influenced by Indian mythology and culture, but it is set in the modern age with modern plot lines, so it is modern mythology in many ways. And in that newer spectrum, Mr. Bachchan is Professor Dumbledore to Harry Potter, or Gandalf the wizard to Frodo Baggins — he is the wise teacher guide who assists Shiva's character in actualizing his powers and discovering his destiny.
