The first schedule of the upcoming Marathi period drama Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat, directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, has begun with Akshay Kumar. The actor has presented his initial appearance as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. However, online users still need to be ready to accept him playing The Great Maratha King on the big screen.

Akshay may be seen in the first look video leaving his darbar while carrying on the persona of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. People chanting Jai Bhavani Jai Shivaji provide a dramatic background sound to the video. He is seen walking the ramp with a severe expression on his face.

Many viewers, however, found it difficult to relate to Akshay in the role of The Great Maratha King.

Netizens began criticizing Khiladi Kumar for playing several historical personalities and failing to captivate the audience. While some pleaded with him not to complete the entire shoot in 40 days, others claimed that whether Akshay plays Samrat Prithviraj or Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he will always be known as Bala, the character he played in Housefull 4.

‘Sir, ye movie ko khatam mat Karo sir, thoda time aur effort dijiye. Log Chatrapati Shivaji maharajji ko, Bhagwan ka darja dete hai, ‘One person made a comment. "Akshay is not perfect for the role of Great King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj," another person said. This was followed by another user who stated, "Prathivi Raj banega... Shivaji banega yahi... Housefull waleee karega.. rahega to ye Bala hee.. koi aur actor llao na Bollywood walo."

Earlier in the day, Akshay announced the project by uploading a selfie of himself looking at a portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He stated in Hindi that he began filming for the film on Monday and is honored to play the character.
