Has Rajkumar Hirani Adapted The Plot Of 'Munna Bhai 3' And Converted It Into Shah Rukh Khan Starrer 'Dunki'; Here’s How Netizens Draw Comparison!

Rajkumar Hirani will return shortly with Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan. Fans, on the other hand, were looking forward to Munna Bhai 3, starring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. The Munna Bhai series has long been a staple among moviegoers. This is why fans have been anticipating the third edition of the franchise since the first two films, ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, wowed viewers.

But the picture dragged its feet. Even though it had been speculated to go on floors till recently. However, allegations circulated that the film was on the verge of being scrapped, while others said that Hirani and writer Abhijaat Joshi were still working on the script for ‘Munna Bhai 3’.

With Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi joining Akshay Kumar in ‘Aawara Paagal Deewana 2’, it appears that Munna Bhai's next chapter may not see the light of day, and the reason behind this may be Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki.

A Reddit discussion questioned how Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki was the third installment in the Munna Bhai franchise. It all started in 2006, with the release of 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai'. The film's closing credits featured a teaser starring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi in which the two discussed travelling to America. ‘Munna Bhai Chale America’ was the title of the film.

After then, Sanjay Dutt's personal life changed dramatically when the verdict on his part in the 1993 Bombay Bomb Blast Case was delivered and he was sentenced to prison. With him gone, Rajkumar Hirani moved on to other projects, including ‘PK’ and subsequently Sanju. However, he continued to toy with the idea of Munna Bhai 3, which netizens now believe has been transformed into ‘Dunki’.

According to Reddit users, the plotlines for both films were nearly identical. While Munna Bhai intended to visit America but most likely did not receive permission, Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki deals with the same issue.

I've heard that Dunki's script is based on 'Munna Bhai 3'. So, 'Dunki' is actually 'Munna Bhai 3' (without the same name and Sanjay)," remarked one user.

Another user concurred, writing, "This seems accurate because 'Dunki' is about illegal immigration, and this film was about Munna going to America, so maybe they used the same script." Another commenter reinforced the notion, saying, "Highly possible".
