Due to his extraordinary work ethic, Manoj Bajpayee is one of Bollywood's most revered actors. The Family Man, Gulmohar, Satya, and Aligarh, to name a few of the biggest blockbuster films and television shows, all included the actor. The actor, whose career was launched by Ram Gopal's movie Satya, admitted that the director had breached his promise to provide him the starring role and had left him pretty devastated. Satya eventually became Manoj's career-defining movie. However, the tale of how the role came to be is rather intriguing. The actor was initially given the lead role, but when he was later contacted for a supporting role, he felt betrayed and crushed.
In one of the episodes of Cyrus Says, Manoj Bajpayee discussed how learning that he had been offered a supporting role in Ram Gopal Varma's critically acclaimed film Satya left him feeling completely shattered. He also discussed how the director advised him not to accept any roles because he had been guaranteed the lead role. The performer said, “He called me and said I want you to play the second guy. I was heartbroken. He lied. I felt what is the use. He said come over. I went to his house and he said "you know that I can cast anyone for the lead but I need someone who has a great personality, a great presence in front of the camera for Bhiku Mhatre.”

The actor also mentioned how Ram Gopal Varma initially approached him and gave him the assurance that he would play the lead; but, when he was really given the job, he felt duped. He shared with them what the director had said, “I can’t believe I’ve been searching for you for five years. Please don’t do this film. I’ve been looking for you all these years, and I have a lead role for you. I want to reserve you for that; don’t commit to anything else.”
