Raj Kapoor, one of the most influential figures in Indian cinema, tried his hand at acting and directing. Kapoor Haveli, Raj Kapoor's ancestral residence, is currently located in Peshawar's renowned Qissa Khwani Bazaar. It is said that Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor, the grandfather of the Bollywood star, constructed it between 1918 and 1922. Here, Trilok Kapoor and Raj Kapoor were born. The place was reportedly visited in the 1990s by Rishi Kapoor and his brother Randhir.

Raj Kapoor was ‘The Charlie Chaplin’ of Hindi cinema. According to recent reports, a Pakistani court recently denied a petition seeking ownership of the haveli in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that belonged to iconic actor Raj Kapoor.

The ancestral haveli, which reportedly belonged to the family of renowned Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor, was designated a national heritage site by the provincial government in 2016. The case was dismissed by the panel, which was made up of Justices Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Abdul Shakoor, in light of a previous ruling on Dilip Kumar Haveli's acquisition procedure. The haveli is located in Peshawar's well-known Qissa Khwani Bazaar, which the federal government led by the then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif had already designated as a national cultural site.

However, Saeed Muhammad's petitioner's lawyer, Advocate Sabahauddin Khattak, informed the court that Saeed Muhammad's father had purchased the mansion through open bidding at an auction in 1969, paid for it, and remained the sole owner up until the start of the acquisition process initiated by the provincial government.

In addition, he said that there are no records in any branch of the provincial government that show the late Raj Kapoor and his family ever owned or lived on this property. The bench told the attorney, though, that a civil court should handle the case.

The mansion is currently significantly damaged due to its prominent location, and its current owners aim to demolish it and replace it with a commercial complex. All such activities, however, were put on hold since the archaeological department wanted to protect the home due to its historic significance.
