Filmmaker Karan Johar on Saturday took to social media to announce the release date of his upcoming film 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani'. Starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, (who re-unite after the superhit 2019 film 'Gully Boy') the romantic comedy will be out on 28 April 2023.

“After 7 years, it's time for me to return to my first home - the cinemas. I had the absolute honour of working with not one, but many illustrious actors on the set of my film. The familial nostalgic feeling of an ensemble cast, creating music that captivates the hearts and a story that runs deep to the roots of our family traditions," wrote Karan.

"It's that time again - to huddle with your family and friends, buy the popcorn and witness just sheer love & entertainment unfold on the big screen. We're overwhelmed and impatiently excited to finally inform... Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani in cinemas on 28th April 2023,” he added.

'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani' brings together three legendary yesteryear stars

Also starring veteran actors Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi, 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani' marks Karan Johar's return to direction seven years after his last film 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' (2016). On working with the legends, Karan recently said that he considers himself very fortunate for the same and that the starcast of his upcoming film is really amazing.

"There are several new actors and the movie is a family love story. It has all the elements in the film that I have loved watching- songs and dance. These have always been a part of my films," the 50-year-old filmmaker stated.

An ensemble starcast comes together for the family entertainer

Also starring Amir Bashir, Kshitee Jog, Anjali Anand, Churni Ganguli, Tota Roy Choudhury, Arjun Bijlani, Shraddha Arya and Arjit Taneja, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani has been extensively shot in Delhi and Mumbai, with some portions filmed in Moscow.

The film has been written by Sumit Roy, Shashank Khaitaan and Ishita Moitra while cinematography has been worked upon by Manush Nandan.
