In Raaj Shaandilyaa's Dream Girl (2019), Ayushmann Khuraana played a cross-gender actor whose female voice impersonation begets attention from others. The film, also starring Nushrratt Bharuccha, emerged as a blockbuster at the box office.

Made on a budget of Rs 28 crore, the film bagged over Rs 200 crore worldwide, making it one of the highest grossing movies of 2019.

The makers have already announced a sequel to the movie titled Dream Girl 2, which will go on floors later this year. While Ayushmann is a part of the project, the female lead opposite him is yet to be finalised.

There were rumours that TV actress Tejasswi Prakash may play the female part in the film. But from what we hear now, Atrangi Re (2021) actress Sara Ali Khan may be finalised opposite Khurrana in Dream Girl 2.

"The makers are looking for a feisty, young star. They think Sara fits the bill and have begun talks with her. However, it is still in the early stages," revealed a source close to the development.

The source further mentioned that Sara is the top choice of Raaj Shaandilyaa, who thinks she'll do full justice as the female lead.

Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana was last seen in Anek (2022) which received a lukewarm response at the box office. He will next be seen in Doctor G which also stars Shefali Shah and Rakul Preet Singh.

On the other hand, Sara Ali Khan has Laxman Utekar’s untitled next with Vicky Kaushal and Gaslight with Vikrant Massey in the pipeline.
