It’s the year of South films at the box office. Every new month and every new south film has reigned the cinemas like never ever. Beginning with RRR, KGF 2, Vikram, Thiruchitrabalam, and now Kantara. Looks like Bollywood needs some lessons from the South industry. Kantara, a Kannada film which released on September 30 alongside Ponniyin Selvan I and Vikram Vedha has created a buzz at the cinemas and among moviegoers. The film has been breaking records of many films and has been in everyone’s mouth with only praises and praises.
Kantara going strong in its third week
In its third week, Kantara increased its weekend take by double, earning over Rs. 36.50 crores in India. Films occasionally increase in popularity over the course of two weekends after their debut; when they do so again over the course of three weekends, it's a sight to behold. But in this case, the movie has increased by a factor of two every weekend since its debut. The second weekend's collections doubled thanks to the positive word-of-mouth buzz the movie was receiving, but the third weekend's collections were boosted by the debut of the dubbed versions.
Kantara to hit 100 crore mark today
However, even the holdout market of Karnataka saw an increase in sales, with third-weekend receipts up 15% from the second weekend to around Rs. 19.50 crores, or 2.35 times the amount of KGF 2, which had previously set the state record for the most third weekend. Kantara made a total of about Rs. 99 crores at the box office in India over its first 17 days. After two KGF movies, the movie will become the third Sandalwood film to ever reach the Rs. 100 crores grossers club today. The movie did surpass the three-figure mark globally, with $1.30 million arriving from abroad, for an approximate worldwide total of Rs. 110 crores.
