Box Office: Double XL has a lukewarm start, mints just Rs 25 lakh on day 1!

Double XL starring Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Mahat Raghavendra and Zaheer Iqbal released on Friday to a lukewarm response at the box office. Despite much hype about its issue-oriented plot, the film has failed to create magic at the ticket windows; minting a meager Rs 25 lakh on day one.

As per reports, the gross footfall of viewers on the first day has been around 50,000. Similarly, the occupancy too was very low; at around 10 percent in theatres.

This has led analysts to opine that an OTT release would've been much better for Double XL than a theatrical one.

On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor's Mili, which was also released alongside Double XL, is doing comparatively well at the box office. The survival thriller has so far grossed between 45-65 lakh and positive word-of-mouth has also been helping the film.

While both Mili and Double XL are female-oriented films, the latter is being panned for poor execution of an otherwise very great plot dealing with body shaming and beauty stereotypes in today's world.

Noteworthy, Double XL follows the lives of two plus-size women Rajshree Trivedi from Meerut and Saira Khanna from New Delhi as they fight to break society's pre-set beauty and desirability standards. 

Directed by Satram Ramani, the film has been written by Mudassar Aziz and Sasha Singh.
