‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ fails to pick up; earns just Rs. 47.50 crores* over the weekend!

It seems 2017 is not going to be a good year for Bollywood, at least in terms of business. Almost 8 months have passed and the New Year is just round the corner, but the Hindi film industry has seen only a few films that can claim the title of a clean hit. After the disturbingly disappointing performance of Salman Khan’s Eid release Tubelight, a lot was expected from Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited film Jab Harry Met Sejal as it brought together the brand new combination of Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Imtiaz Ali for the first time on the celluloid. But all hopes dashed to the air when the film opened with an alarmingly low collection of Rs. 15.25 crores. The film was panned by all critics, which resulted in the low occupancy across the country on the day 2 as well. On Saturday, the film could pull in just Rs. 15 crores. Trade pundits thought the movie would show some growth on Sunday and rake in a huge amount. But, unfortunately, that did not happen as the movie could, reportedly, mint just Rs. 17.25 crores on its first Sunday. As reported by Koimoi, after its three-day run, the film has taken its total collection to Rs. 47.50 crores.

Now, the writing is clear on the wall that after Dilwale and Fan, the audience has rejected Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal also. These are very disappointing figures for filmmaker Imtiaz Ali also as his last release Tamasha, starring Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor did not leave the cash registers ringing, too. It was expected he would deliver a hit with Jab Harry Met Sejal, but going by the collection of the film, it seems to be a distanced dream. As far Anushka Sharma, the dismal performance of Jab Harry Met Sejal will do some damage to her winning streak too as her last two releases Phillauri and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil were received well by the audience.
