Even controversy, poor reviews, and boycotts have failed to prevent ‘The Kerala Story’ from enjoying a profitable run at the box office. The movie is doing well financially and centres on a group of non-Muslim women who were coerced into joining the terrorist group ISIS. Despite opposition, it has succeeded in making the cash registers ring.

Every theatre release must succeed on the first Monday, and Adah Sharma's movie did. It has actually excelled! The Sudipto Sen movie made more money on Day 4 than it did on Day 1. Early estimates place the revenue at between Rs. 10 and Rs. 11 crore.

‘The Kerala Story’ made between 7.50 to 8 crore rupees on its first day of release. With this, it overtook ‘Pathaan’ (Rs 55 crore), Salman Khan's ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ (Rs 15.81 crore), Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's romantic drama ‘TJMM’ (Rs 15.7 crore), and Ajay Devgn's ‘Bholaa’ (Rs 11.20 crore) as the year's fifth-highest opening weekend. It has now earned Rs 45 crore in total.

The movie has been receiving positive reviews despite the controversy and boycott requests. While it was made tax-free in Madhya Pradesh, the contentious drama's screenings have been halted in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
