Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone is one of the most talented actresses of Indian cinema. She is known for her notable work in such successful films as Chhapaak (2020), Padmaavat (2018), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and many more. Deepika is one such actress who expresses herself and talks about her experiences openly. Be it her personal life or professional life, she has always been very clear about her choices. One such thing the actress is very vocal about is mental health.
The Bajirao Mastani actress has never failed to empathize more on mental health. In a recent interview she was having a conversation about mental health and its portrayal in Indian cinema. When asked how much further she thinks we need to go in terms of a more thorough portrayal of mental health in Indian cinema, and how we will get there, she simply replied by saying, “with understanding and empathy”.
Deepika further added, “We should afford the same honesty and authenticity to characters with mental illnesses as we do to biopics.”
She further narrated her own experience and talked about having therapists on the sets too. “We have a doctor on set, so I don’t see why we can’t have a mental health professional too. During Chhapaak (2020), I brought on a therapist for myself because there were days where I would have a panic attack or feel claustrophobic.”
Deepika Padukone will next be seen in Yash Raj Films' Pathaan, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham.
