Confirmed: Tom Hardy to return to headline Venom 3
Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman announced at CinemaCon on Monday night that Venom 3 is in the works.
Sony Pictures has confirmed that a third installment to its Venom franchise is in the work. The film, headlined by Tom Hardy, comes following the back-to-back successes of Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) and Venom (2018). Venom: Let There Be Carnage shattered a series of records upon its release in 2021 and went on to gross $502 million worldwide, without any theatrical release in China.
Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman announced at CinemaCon on Monday night that the third installment of the franchise has been greenlit.
However, beyond further confirmation that Tom Hardy and his symbiote are set to make a return to headline Venom 3, no other details have been revealed. There is no update on the film’s new villains and its release date.
As per reports, Sony Pictures is also planning one more film in the Ghostbusters series. The upcoming film will be a follow-up to 2021’s reboot Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The announcement comes after production on Ghostbusters star Bill Murray’s latest film Being Mortal was suspended by Searchlight Pictures amidst accusations of “inappropriate behaviour” by the actor on set.
Sony announced both the projects at CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theater owners.
