Jason Momoa signs on to topline Warner Bros’ Minecraft
Jason Momoa will next reprise his role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to his 2018 blockbuster Aquaman.
Actor Jason Momoa has signed on to headline Warner Bros’ live-action film Minecraft. The upcoming film is based on the popular video game from the prestigious studio.
Momoa is already a part of Warner Bros’ universe as he plays the DC superhero Aquaman in Aquaman. He also played a pivotal part in the multiple Oscar winning film Dune (2021), which also comes from the stable of the banner.
A leading entertainment portal reports that Momoa is in final negotiations to star in Minecraft. The film is set to be directed by Jared Hess while Dune producer Mary Parent and Roy Lee are attached as producers.
Minecraft, a product of the Swedish studio Mojang, debuted in 2011 and allows players to use blocks to create structures and worlds. The game became a sensation, reaching 100 million users just a few years after launch and helping spark Microsoft to acquire Mojang for USD 2.5 billion in 2014.
Momoa will next reprise his role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to his 2018 blockbuster Aquaman. The much-awaited sequel is set to enter theatres in March 2023.
