Tom Cruise confirms not playing Iron Man role, addressing the rumours spanning over the years; Insights!

Tom Cruise addresses the rumours about him playing the role of Iron Man and responds in his recent interview by mentioning that he was not close to catching the role and confirmed not playing the role.

Tom Cruise has long been exposed to rumours that he was in the success to play Tony Stark, his superhero alter ego. The rumours have initiated after Doctor Strange's in the Multiverse of Madness screenwriter Michael Waldron disclosed planning to cast. Tom Cruise was leaning toward playing a variant of Tony Stark in the 2022 film. But these rumours have finished by Tom Cruise gave confirmation about not playing the role of Iron Man and were not even close to it.

Tom Cruise said, "Not close, I love Robert Downey Jr., and I can't imagine anyone else doing that role, and I think it's perfect for him." Earlier to this, fans were also speculating that Tom Cruise was considered for the original Iron Man role, which was essayed by Downey Jr took on in 2008 for Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The screenwriter Michael Waldron said about the online rumours, "Yeah, that was totally made up. I mean, there's no cut footage of Tom Cruise. But I love Tom Cruise, and I said to [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige] at one point, I was like, 'Could we get Tom Cruise's, Iron Man?' I remember reading that in Ain't It Cool News back in the day that Tom Cruise was going to be Iron Man."

He further adds, "As it was being talked about online, I was like, 'Yeah, that'd be cool!'" Waldron simplified that he didn't think anyone contacted the actor "because of availability." He also mentioned that about Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes (aka War Machine) in the films from 2010's Iron Man 2 cast and said, "I've kind of grown up over the last 12 years with this cast who I really have fun with."
