Hansal Mehta’s Omertà, starring Rajkummar Rao, to now release on May 4th

Did not want any cuts so had to wait,' says Hansal Mehta on pushing his film to May 4.

By BollywoodMDB Team - April 19, 2018

Rajkummar Rao starrer Omertà, which was earlier scheduled to enter cinemas on April 20th, will now release on May 4th. On shifting his film from 20th April to 4th May, filmmaker Hansal Mehta says, "We knew that it wouldn't be a cakewalk with the Censor Board given that the film has a fair bit of violence and strong language. We didn't want cuts that would take away the essence of the film, so we had to wait. The Censor Board Chief and members of the revising committee understood how certain scenes could not be removed since they are essential for audiences to understand how a terrorist's mind works. Hence the wait and that's why a decision has been taken to release Omertà on May 4th."

"The team was waiting for CBFC’s clearance for the film. We’re happy to announce May 4th as the release date for Omertà. We know audiences are eagerly awaiting the film's release. It's just a small change of two weeks. We don't mind the delay as long as we have managed to keep the essence of the film intact,” adds producer Nahid Khan.

Omertà, which has travelled to many film festivals across the world including Toronto International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and Mumbai Film Festival 2017, is based on one of the most dreaded terrorists, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. Rajkummar Rao will be seen in the titular role of Omar Sheikh in the thriller.

Presented by Swiss Entertainment and Karma Media, Omertà now releases on May 4th, 2018.
