After indulging in a prolonged battle with the Censor Board Of Film Certification over its feminist content and theme, the controversial film Lipstick Under My Burkha finally witnesses the release of its full-length trailer today. The Konkona Sen Sharma , Aahana Kumar and Ratna Pathak Shah starrer explores women’s sexuality and has been in the news ever since its mini-teasers surfaced online and garnered huge eyeballs for its bold content.
The film has travelled across various international film festivals and won the Spirit of Asia Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Oxfam Award for the Best Film on Gender Equality at the Mumbai Film Festival. But its release in India was always in doubt as CBFC demanded suggested a long list of scenes and words to be chopped off from the film, which did not get down well with the makers. Later, the film was cleared for a theatrical release in the country after the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) decided that the film can be issued an adult certificate.
But now Lipstick Under My Burkha has finally got a release date. The Prakash Jha production’s feminist drama, which has producer Ekta Kapoor as presenter and pan-India distributor, will release on July 28. The film is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava.
