Salaam Bombay, a remarkable movie had won many international awards and acclaim including Camera d'Or and the Prix Publique at the Cannes Festival. Mira Nair will re-release the movie at PVR on March 22 to commemorate this event. Shot in real location of the city of dreams, the film was based on the struggle and life of a few common ones in Mumbai. It showed the life of street children, drug-pushers, pimps and prostitutes of a red light area of Mumbai. Nair used a Kubrickesque color scheme, and Hitchcockian mise-en-scene but the end product was a style that was unmistakably her own. It featured Raghubir Yadav and Nana Patekar in pivotal roles. Eighteen year old Irfan Khan too had a cameo to play.
