The Count of Monte Cristo, a literary classic by Alexandre Dumas in 1844, has seen multiple international adaptations and now it's on the horizon of Bollywood. The book is a tale of a wronged man, who is on his way to take revenge and seek love and finds treasure.

The movie will be produced under Azure Entertainment by Sunil Kheterpal. It will be directed by Abbas Burmawalla and Mustan Burmawalla , reportedly. The lead role will be played by Saif Ali Khan , as revealed by the latest reports. Although it's a desi adaptation of the classic, the screenplay and story will be different, as told by Mustan. A close source said that " Saif Ali Khan will be playing a businessman in this film. There will be two heroines opposite him; one will be a younger actress and another six years older than him,"

The producer Kheterpal attested the news update by mentioning that "Yes, we are working on an adaptation of the novel with Saif in the lead. The revenge drama is right up Abbas-Mustan's alley. The film is still untitled and will release in 2015," Talking about casting Saif for this role, Mustan said that "We gave Saif a one and a half hour narration before he left for Mauritious for the shoot of ' Humshakals '. He liked it and after he returned, we met him with a bound script," Mustan further added that "This is a solo hero project. Tentatively, we should roll in October, after ' Phantom ' opens on October 2. But there could be a two-three months time lag,"
