Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar’s film ‘Mohalla Assi’ finally to release after 2 years!
After being put on a hold for more than 2 years, Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar’s film ‘Mohalla Assi’ gets an ‘A’ certificate from CBFC.
Remember the movie, ‘Mohalla Assi’, starring Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar? Well, if not, then that’s totally not your fault! ‘Mohalla Assi’ is a film by Chandraprakash Dwivedi based on Dr. Kashi Nath Singh's popular Hindi novel ‘Kashi Ka Assi’, a satire on the commercialization of the pilgrimage city, and fake gurus who lure the foreign tourists. The movie was completed in 2014-15 and was put on hold for more than 2 years by Delhi High Court for allegedly hurting religious sentiments because of its sensitive cum adultery content. Finally, the film received an ‘A’ certificate with one cut for release from the censor board after a battle that lasted almost two years. The producer is hoping to release it before the festival of Holi.
Producer Vinay Tiwari said in a statement, “We were very disturbed and had a lot of tension, but now I am very excited that it will release. After a prolonged legal battle, we have received a judgment favouring our argument and CBFC has now issued an ‘A’ certificate for the movie. We will try and release it before Holi.”
The hurdle for the makers began when the application for certification of the film was submitted to CBFC in March 2016. The Revising Committee of the board, however, had refused to issue a certificate for an exhibition of the film stating that the form and content of the film were highly derogatory of humans, culture, and religion, including but not limited to mythology.
