It has not even been one month since the veteran journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead at her residence in Bangalore by some unknown assailants, but her eventful life and tragic death has caught the attention of many filmmakers down south. Kannada director-producer AMR Ramesh and producer Praveen are showing their keen interest in making a film on the life of the slain journalist. Though the police is still investigating the murder, the two producers are ready to start their film soon.
AMR Ramesh is known for making films on people who influenced India for one reason or the other. In the past, he has made films on fugitive Veerappan and on Rajiv Gandhi assassination. He even announced a film on LTTE chief Prabhakaran in the past. But the project could not take off for one reason or the other. The first film which was based on the life of Veerappan came in the 1990s wherein Devaraj played the smuggler. When he made a film on his life titled Veerappan Attahasa, the lead role was played by Kishor. The latest film on Veerappan was the Ram Gopal Verma directorial Killing Veerappan with Sandeep Bharadwaj.
Though AMR Ramesh and one more producer have announced a film on Gauri Lankesh, it remains to be seen who they cast to play the lead.
