Suriya accepts Oscars invite to join the committee, Kamal Haasan congratulates his ‘brother’

Suriya is the only south actor to be invited to join the Oscars committee. He is among the 397 artists and executives to have received an invitation to join members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. As soon as the news was revealed, fans and celebrities started pouring out wishes for the star. Suriya who received international recognition for his film Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim humbly accepted the invite and thanked the Oscars committee for this honour.

The Tamil star took to his Twitter and shared a thankful note. He tweeted, "Thank you @TheAcademy for the invitation, which I humbly accept. My heartfelt thanks to all those who wished me, will always strive to make you all proud!”

Soorarai Pottru, which starred Suriya, was a component of India's official Oscars 2021 submission. The Oscars' YouTube channel's "Scene at the Academy" section also featured his well-known courtroom drama Jai Bhim (2021).

Kamal Haasan, who is enjoying Vikram's success, congratulated his brother on Twitter. The two stars had earlier shared screen space in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film. Kamal Haasan wrote, “Glad my brother @Suriya_offl treads the ground of stars. In spite of gravity, which makes wings weak. We created angels and stars. Hence be a proud brother to join the crowd of excellence (sic)."

With the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, which stars Akshay Kumar opposite Radhika Madan, Suriya will shortly make his Bollywood debut as a producer. The film is being produced by Suriya's business 2D Entertainment. It was recently disclosed that the actor also makes a cameo in the Hindi version, which is still untitled.
