There is no boycott culture in the South, says Dulquer Salmaan
Dulquer was last seen in the Telugu-language period romantic film Sita Ramam, which became commercially successful.
Bollywood films have been falling flat at the box office left, right and center and many believe that the negative publicity and boycott calls on social media are responsible for this. In the past few weeks, several big films like Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan and Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra have faced boycott calls online.
Talking about this unfortunate trend, south actor Dulquer Salmaan said that there is no such boycott culture prevalent in the south film industry. "The boycott culture is overpowering these days because of social media… People start writing things with their own agendas, without any responsibilities. There is no ‘cancel culture’ in the south, we are hearing about it first in Bollywood."
The versatile actor, who is looking forward to the release of R Balki’s ‘Chup: The Revenge of the Artist’, said that the film is being held as a mark of tribute to late filmmaker Guru Dutt and his 1959 classic Kaagaz Ke Phool, which also starred Waheeda Rehman.
Touted to be a romantic psychopath thriller, Chup: The Revenge of The Artist also stars Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt and Shreya Dhanwanthary. It is set to release on 23 September 2022.
