“Jab dusron ki dukaan mere liye band ho gayi tab…” singer Shaan talks about releasing music independently on The Kapil Sharma

Singer Shaan, known for his chartbuster songs like ‘Musu Musu’ (Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi), ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan’ (Dil Chahta Hai) and ‘Chaand Sifarish’ (Fanaa), has often spoken about losing out on not doing enough work in the film and music industry in the last couple of years owing to music companies favouring other singers over him.

The 49-year-old singer, who will be seen in an upcoming episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, spoke about the same to host Kapil Sharma as well. In a recently released promo of the episode, Kapil can be seen asking the singer as to why he started releasing most of his music on his YouTube channel. Kapil asked him, “kab aap ko realize hua ki kisi doosre ki dukaan par mithaai bechne se achcha hai khud ki dukaan khol lo?”.

Shaan replies to the question by saying, “jab dusron ki dukaan mere liye band ho gayi tab…”. While Shaan’s reply makes the audience break into peals of laughter, his statement gives one a glimpse of the unfair practices employed by the music labels today.

Singers like Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and KK, among others, are rarely heard today and each one of them, at different points, have spoken about how music companies today keep looking for fresh voices all the time and refrains from working with singers who have delivered chartbusters for 1-15 years at a stretch.
