The Gangubai Kathiawadi actress is facing a lot of backlash for defending her father Mahesh Bhatt for cheating on his first wife and falling in love with Soni Razdan in an old interview where she opened up about infidelity linked to her father Mahesh Bhatt. When questioned about her opinion of infidelity during the Kalank film's promotional period, the actress reportedly said that she doesn't believe in infidelity," citing her father Mahesh Bhatt as an example.

The online community is harshly criticising Alia and getting personal in their remarks about what she said. They also praise her union with Bollywood sensation Ranbir Kapoor and predict that they will be able to tell when he cheats on her by watching her response. Apparently, Alia said, "My father met my mother because he had an extramarital affair. I am not as black and white about life; sometimes in life, things happen for a reason. Of course, you would not want to propagate infidelity, and I don’t propagate it, but I understand the nature of humans; it’s not always that easy, and it is something that’s prevalent."
The actress from Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani is praised by the others for her mature approach. Any child can easily take such sobering information about their parents' lives, but Alia did a commendable job of handling it.
