Nawazuddin Siddiqui's upcoming movie ‘Haddi’ has created a buzz among the audience with his remarkable transformation into a transgender character. The actor's first look, which recently surfaced online, has left viewers astonished and showered him with praises.
Behind the scenes, the production crew faced a significant challenge in finalizing the character's appearance. It took nearly six months of meticulous efforts to perfect the look, as revealed by Raadhika Nanda, one of the producers of the film alongside Sanjay Saha. Nawazuddin Siddiqui himself encountered difficulties in the process, particularly in mastering the intricacies of draping a saree, which took almost 30 minutes each time, and the extensive three-hour-long makeup routine required to complete the character's overall transformation. Such dedication and attention to detail highlight the commitment of the team involved in bringing this unique portrayal to life.
Raadika Nanda said: “He (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) wore a saree for the first time. He used to shoot for hours in the same saree look. We used prosthetics in the process too but the idea was to keep the look as natural as possible.”
The movie is hailed as a milestone in Bollywood's portrayal of the queer population. The producer shared: "We used around 80 sarees during the entire shoot. Nawazuddin was very overwhelmed looking at himself in the mirror for the first time since he had never seen himself like that, which helped him to feel his character closely.”
“Nawazuddin Siddiqui understood how difficult it is to be a woman to get up every day, in that attire and do household chores. It took us nearly 6 months to achieve the looks after going through several make-up artists,” she added.
The anticipation surrounding ‘Haddi’ continues to build, thanks to Nawazuddin Siddiqui's extraordinary portrayal, which promises to be a compelling and transformative cinematic experience for audiences.
The film ‘Haddi’, which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and is produced by Sanjay Saha and Raadhika Nanda under the banner of Anandita Studios, will hit theatres at the end of June.
