Ranbir Kapoor claims that his next movie ‘Animal’ forced him to work harder since it made him realise how insufficient he is as an actor. Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Rashmika Mandanna are also featured in the criminal drama, which is helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga of ‘Kabir Singh’ fame.
Ranbir, who has about 30 days remaining to finish 'Animal', claimed that in contrast to his real-life self, his character in the film is an "alpha" with nuance. “It’s a new territory for me. It’s a crime drama and a father-son story. It’s something audiences don’t expect me to do. It has got shades of grey. He is very alpha, again something I’m not. So, I’m looking forward to it. It is completely out of my comfort zone. As an actor, such challenges are important as it really shook me up. It made me work hard, and realise how inadequate I’m and how much I needed to work to reach a certain level,” the actor told PTI.
However, the 40-year-old actor expressed optimism that the eagerly awaited Kishore Kumar biopic with director Anurag Basu will get underway soon. Ranbir Kapoor hasn't signed on to any movies since ‘Animal’. Prior projects for the team included ‘Barfi’ and ‘Jagga Jasoos.’
“The Kishore Kumar biopic has been in discussion for some time. We are still in talks. Basu is working on the script. Apart from that, there is nothing,” the actor said.
For many years, rumours have circulated that the actor will play the renowned singer-actor in a biopic. At the Kolkata premiere of his most recent film, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar,’ he recently stated that he is in the movie.
According to Ranbir, the film business is undergoing a phase of course correction following the pandemic. “There is a correction happening in the industry. To be honest, not many films are being made right now. Lot of actors and stars are sitting at home. I guess people are confused, what is a cinema film, what is an OTT film. It is a confusing time right now. Hopefully, we will come out of it stronger with better ideas and good content,” he added.
‘Animal’ is scheduled for release on August 11, 2023 and was produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series, Murad Khetani's Cine1 Productions, and Pranay Reddy Vanga's Bhadrakali Films.
'Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar' features Ranbir Kapoor, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia, and Shraddha Kapoor among others. The film is directed by Luv Ranjan. Presenters Gulshan Kumar and Bhushan Kumar of T-Series produced it along with Ankur Garg of Love Productions.
