‘The Kerala Story’, a contentious film about conversion, was at the forefront of a national debate on Friday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi crediting it with bringing out terror conspiracies and using it to target the Congress during a rally in Karnataka.

The Prime Minister said at a rally in the poll-bound State of Ballari, "Such a beautiful State of the country, where people are hardworking and talented." The film ‘Kerala Story exposes terror conspiracies that are taking place in that state."

"It is unfortunate that the Congress can be seen supporting this terror trend that seeks to destroy the country." The Congress is even engaging in backdoor political bargaining with terrorist sympathisers. "The people of Karnataka should be wary of the Congress," Mr. Modi added.

Arif Mohammed Khan, Governor of Kerala, informed reporters in Ernakulam that he had not yet seen the film. "What is my opinion... I am not in a position to say anything." But if someone has... they claim that this is a fiction based on true events. If they are asserting that, I believe it is the government's responsibility to investigate the problem," he told reporters in answer to inquiries.

DYFI Slams PM’s Statement

The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the CPI(M)'s youth wing, accused Mr. Modi of attempting to "whitewash" the contentious film. The youth body demanded Mr. Modi to withdraw and apologize for his comments against the "anti-Kerala" Hindi film.

DYFI president and Rajya Sabha member A.A. Rahim slammed the remark, saying it is a political ploy by the Sangh Parivar to sow discord in society and ruin Kerala's image.
