The talk of the town is 'The Kerala Story,' and for both valid and invalid justifications starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani. As much acclaim as 'The Kerala Story' is receiving, there are also some controversies. A few people have referred to it as 'propaganda film' and have criticised the same claim that it is encouraging Islamophobia. Recently, Kamal Haasan, who travelled to Yas Island for the IIFA Awards 2023, referred to 'The Kerala Story' as a propaganda movie as well. Sudipto Sen has finally responded to the comments made by the seasoned actor.
Sudipto Sen, who has been hospitalised owing to illness, revealed to an entertainment news website that he has ceased responding to such statements. The director claims that he would have earlier tried to provide an explanation, but he hasn't. He explains that after watching the video, many who had previously referred to it as propaganda had altered their minds. After watching it, they praised the film as being nice. Sudipto Sen asserts that people who haven't seen the movie are the ones criticising it.
He cited the instances of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, two states that declared the film to be propaganda despite not having seen it. Sudipto Sen said, " There are very stupid stereotypes in our country... life has to be black or white, they don’t know life exists in the grey." Due to excessive film promotion, Sudipto Sen is hospitalised for illness and dehydration.
According to the director, 'The Kerala Story' is not their film, even if the BJP likes it. Sen claims that 37 different nations around the world adore the film. He claims that they have called him and clarified any questions or criticisms they have encountered with him. He continues by saying that anyone who calls the movie a propaganda piece is themselves engaging in it because they are expressing their opinions before even seeing the movie. Sen claims he no longer explains to such individuals.
Regarding 'The Kerala Story's scandal, Kamal Haasan was questioned. The actor declared his opposition to propaganda films and noted that just using the phrase 'based on a true story' as a tagline doesn't necessarily equate to a factual story.
