After conquering success with the previous thriller 'A Wednesday!', the producer Anjum Rizvi presented his next offering 'John Day'. Released on September 13, 'John Day' was classified into thriller category by looking at its dark and mystery-loaded trailers. Directed by debut director Ahishor Solomon, the movie featured Naseeruddin Shah, Randeep Hooda, Shernaz Patel, Vipin Sharma, Elena Kazan, Makarand Deshpande, Bharat Dabholkar and Sharat Saxena. The noire-drama 'John Day' received mixed reviews from the film critics and it failed to create ripples due to other releases on the same day, like the adult comic caper 'Grand Masti' and frightening narrative 'Horror Story'.
'John Day' was expected to bag praises, however it could not steal the thunder and had to undergo a struggling phase throughout the first day of its release. Even though, the film was packed with excellent direction and sterling performances by the protagonists, it could not enliven the same magic as that of 'A Wednesday!'. The flick contained several deja-vu scenes and offered nothing new to stand out of the crowd. As per the early estimates, 'John Day' is anticipated to mint around 4 to 5 crore nett on Friday. The film saw about 5% to 20% opening on Friday, over the other releases. It has to sail well in the first week of its release for sustaining in the competition from the other flicks. It seems the next week releases, 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero' and 'The Lunchbox' will plan the further fate of 'John Day'.
