Simran vs Lucknow Central: Both films remain low over the weekend!
Despite starring popular faces like Kangana Ranaut and Farhan Akhtar, Simran and Lucknow Central respectively failed to perform over the weekend.
Two important films hit screens last Friday– Simran and Lucknow Central. The former boasted of Kangana Ranaut as its female lead while the latter was toplined by multi-talented Farhan Akhtar. Directed by Hansal Mehta, Simran was in news even before going on floors. Why? Because it starred the reigning queen of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut. Since the trailer of the film had also received a decent amount of attention, it was expected that the movie would open well at the ticket window. But, alas, that did not happen. Even after so much media focus on Kangana Ranaut before the release, nothing could ensure a good weekend for Simran at the box office. The movie earned Rs. 2.77 crores on Friday, Rs. 3.76 on Saturday and Rs. 4.12 crores, taking its weekend total to Rs. 10.65 crores. The writing is clear on the wall that a major chunk of the audience is not appreciating the film and hence the figures are way below than what was expected.
Lucknow Central, on the other hand, remained low throughout the weekend. On Day 1, it raked in Rs. 2.04 crores. The movie showed some growth on Saturday and minted Rs. 2.82 crores. On Sunday, Lucknow Central made just Rs. 3.56 crores. The weekend collection of the movie now reaches Rs. 8.42 crores. It the film does not pick up in coming days, it will be Farhan Akhtar’s second flop in a row after Rock On 2.
