Despite receiving an overwhelming response from critics, the Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer A Gentleman failed to make an impact at the box office. The film, directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, released on 25th August and witnessed almost negligible occupancy nationwide. Resultantly, the first-weekend collection of the film stands at Rs. 13.13 crores.
On Monday, the movie earned just Rs. 2.03 crores. With this small addition in the income, the total of the movie reached the Rs. 15.16 crores. Extremely disappointing!
No one could understand what went wrong with the film. It had everything going in its favour, from the crackling chemistry between the lead pair to sleek action sequences. But even with the presence of these ingredients the film just could not bring the audience to cinema halls.
Though it can be assumed that the film suffered a bit in prominent Hindi territories like Punjab and Haryana due to the conviction of self-proclaimed god-man Ram Rahim Singh Insan in a rape case, how can one justify its poor performance in other areas?
The movie was expected to make at least 50 crores by the end of its first week, but that seems to be a distant dream now. In nutshell, A Gentleman has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of 2017.
