Rajkumar Hirani Biography
Rajkumar Hirani aka Raju Hirani is one of the best directors and screenwriters in the Bollywood. His films have a depth, a story and a class. He is a national and Filmfare award winning director, film editor and screenwriter. He was born on 22nd November in 1962. He was born and brought up in a Sindhi family in Nagpur. His father Suresh Hirani had a typing institute in Nagpur. He immigrated to Nagpur when he was 14 years old at the time of partition. Hirani studied in St. Francis De'Sales High School in Nagpur. Then he took a degree in commerce from Nagpur. He used to help his father in their family business but he had a liking towards films and acting. His father sent him to Mumbai for taking admission in an acting school but he returned to Nagpur in 3 days. Later he took an admission in FTII Pune where he got a scholarship to learn editing.
After finishing with FTII, Hirani tried his luck in editing but could not do much. So he tried his hand in advertising and gradually he became successful in establishing himself as a director and producer of advertisements. Later to try his luck in film making, he took a break from advertising field and started working with famous director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He did trailers and promos for '1942 A love Story' and 'Kareeb'. He worked as an editor for the film 'Mission Kashmir'.
He debuted as a director with the film 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S' in the year 2003 starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Boman Iraniand Gracy Singh. The movie was a huge hit and is considered as a classic. His second film was 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan and Boman Irani was also a great box office hit. His third film was '3 Idiots' starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Kareena Kapoor, Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani broke all the records at the box office and is considered as the highest grossing film in India and overseas. He worked as a creative producer for 'Parineeta' and executive producer for 'Eklavya'.
