The Hollywood Reporter has learned from multiple sources that longtime Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso, whose tenure with the company goes back to the release of the first Iron Man, has left the company. She left Marvel on Friday, according to sources. The reasons for the split are unknown.

Alonso had been with the business from the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, logging an impressive 17 years with the company and witnessing its growth from a small operation running above a Beverly Hills Mercedes-Benz dealership to one that was eventually purchased by Disney. The MCU rose to become the highest-grossing picture franchise in history during her leadership.

Alonso began working for the company in 2006 as the head of visual effects and postproduction. In 2008, he co-produced Iron Man, which served as the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, she co-produced Captain America: The First Avenger (2009), Thor (2011), and Iron Man 2 (2010). (2011). The Avengers (2012), a historic movie that made $1.5 billion worldwide and propelled Marvel to new heights, saw Alonso promoted to executive director, demonstrating the viability of the shared cinematic universe idea.

Alonso worked on Marvel's Disney+ TV series in addition to acting as executive producer on the studio's following films. She received a promotion to the position of president, physical and postproduction, visual effects, and animation production in 2021.

She also directed Argentina, 1985, an international film that was nominated for an Oscar last year.

Her departure coincides with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's underwhelming box office performance and poor reception from reviewers and fans.

Alonso has been a crucial spokesperson for the studio's advocacy efforts in addition to her work behind the scenes. She was also vocal during Disney's legal battle with Florida over the state's "Don't Say Gay" law. Alonso, a gay man, said at the moment, “As long as I am at Marvel Studios, I will fight for representation,”

She has appeared on THR's Women in Entertainment Power 100 list numerous times and was designated one of People en Espaol magazine's Most Influential Hispanic Women in 2019 and 2020.
