BHOOT RETURNS is a Hindi feature film which released today i.e. on 12th October, 2012. It has been produced by Jitendra Jain under the banner of Alumbra Entertainment and Eros International. It has been directed by Ram Gopal Varma. Its genre is horror! Does it scare you? Read the review ahead. Story : It is the sequel of 'Bhoot' which was also directed by Ram Gopal Varma a few years back. In this film Tarun (J. D. Chakravarthy) shifts into a new house with his wife (Manisha Koirala), daughter (Alayana Sharma) and son. After sometime his sister (Madhu Shalini) too starts staying with them. However, the wife of Tarun is puzzled at the rate they have got the house. She is unable to digest it. She is always suspicious why they got the house at such a throwaway rate. However, her husband has no time to notice such points. But soon some unfortunate things and the omens start taking place. In the beginning their daughter starts referring to a friend Shabbo who no one else can see. They find her friend to be just her imagination. Even though they discard the idea of their daughter's imagination, it takes another shape and starts scaring them when their daughter threatens to harm people. Soon they get to hear strange and horrifying sounds at night. They feel that their servant was behind it and they accuse him of his mischief. However, their servant suspects supernatural powers at play and requests as well as suggests them to conduct "pooja hawan" so that they could get rid of the evil spirits. Thereafter, one day, their servant vanishes and they have no clue about his disappearance! Another day, the same thing happens with their daughter. Who is Shabbo? Why she is visible to only little girl? What she wants? Where have the servant and their daughter vanished? How would they get back? All such queries are answered in the remaining part of the film. Performance : Manisha Koirala has made a comeback with this horror film. She has performed well as the scared wife. However at a few places she goes overboard! J. D. Chakravarthy is okay and has justified his role. Alayana Sharma in the role of Tarun's daughter is above average. Madhu Shalini has also done well. Script : Ravi Shankar has written its script which is not fresh or new. You have watched such things so many times and also in Ramu's 'Vaastu Shastra'. It seems that the writer could not think or imagine anything new. The movie is a blatant mix and rip-off of a dozen other ghost films. Its screenplay fails to keep you engaged. Direction : The direction of Ram Gopal Varma is no so appealing or engaging. The tricks of the ghost what he has tried to scare the family (or you) have become old and stale and you can just laugh at those old-fashioned poltergeist. What he does to scare the family or you is like pulling the sheets off sleeping people, the ancient swing moving by itself etc. which you have watched several times and now you get bored to watch them. However there are some funny dialogues when some policemen come to investigate about the people who are missing. Plus Points : Hardly anything Minus Points : Poor Script; Weak Direction Conclusion : Ram Gopal Varma has succeeded only a few times in making horror films. Most of the times, he has failed. Same is the case here. He has failed to scare you or use your time. He has given you what you have watched several times in the past. So he just wastes your time and money. It may not interest the audience who watch horror films frequently. Verdict : You can skip it!
